What’s on AMA?– Series 5

3 Apr 2025

In Series 5 of "What’s on AMA?", we explore how MVL can empower ecosystem participants and foster a sense of ownership among drivers and users.

Let’s dive in!

Q: The move to Base potentially opens up new avenues for decentralized governance and decision making. How is MVL exploring these possibilities and what mechanisms are being considered to ensure that community members have a meaningful voice in the direction of the ecosystem?

MVL has always focused on creating real-world value and fostering an inclusive ecosystem. When we introduced the 0% commission ride-hailing model, drivers were initially skeptical, assuming it would eventually follow the same profit-driven trajectory as traditional platforms. However, over the years, we’ve remained committed to this principle, reinforcing trust while gradually integrating blockchain-based incentives.

Rather than overwhelming drivers with complex blockchain concepts, MVL prioritized immediate financial benefits. The rewards system was introduced organically—drivers began earning MVL tokens simply by using the platform. Without formal education, many started recognizing these rewards as assets and sought to understand their value. This self-driven learning process underscored a key insight: users who benefit directly from a system naturally become more engaged in its evolution.

This philosophy extends to governance. By transitioning to Base, MVL is exploring decentralized governance mechanisms that empower community members—including drivers and users—to influence platform policies. Traditional ride-hailing platforms impose decisions unilaterally, but MVL envisions a system where stakeholders have a meaningful voice.

For example, policies on ride cancellations—a common frustration among drivers—could be determined through community-driven governance. Drivers who experience frequent cancellations waste fuel and time, yet they currently have no say in shaping policies that affect their earnings. Through a decentralized governance model, drivers and users could participate in decision-making processes, proposing and voting on policies that balance fairness and efficiency.

Beyond ride-hailing, as MVL’s mobility ecosystem expands, governance could extend to areas such as commission structures, token distribution models, and broader ecosystem rules.
